Baby, it’s cold outside…

I lived and studied in London Ontario, Canada, for a year and let me tell you: that winter was pretty cold.
My grandmother Ruth taught me how to knit when I was five years old – and I was so glad she did!

A couple of months before I moved to Canada I made myself an extra-long and comfortable scarf.

I designed it myself and figured out how to knit it in a way that both sides would be the same, copying soccer fan scarfs. That was before I got into searching how-to videos on YouTube. To be honest, I think, YouTube wasn’t even such a big thing back then… But apparently the knitting technique is called „Double Knitting“. And these days you can find many tutorials online.

(Maybe other knitting techniques might work as well, like Intarsia Knitting, but I have never tried that).

Anyway, this became one scarf of many. They make wonderful birthday and Christmas gifts and if it wouldn’t take me weeks to knit them, I’d sell them too and get rich!

Just make sure that the wool you buy is soft and comfortable. The ones I have given away, have been worn for at least ten winters. We are still counting and are sure they will last a lot longer…

If you want to keep your loved ones warm with a handmade scarf of your own, feel free to download my patterns and give it a try.

Starting with the next post, I will share my favorite designs with you.
